Guide to Kindergarten and Kinder- Prep Registration
2012-2013 School Year
Kindergarten and our new Kinder – Prep program registration begins on January
23, 2012 at your district school of residence. Kinder – Prep is a two - year
kindergarten program designed to give our youngest five years olds a bridge
between preschool and kindergarten. Enrollment in Kindergarten is open to
children who turn five by November 1, 2012 and registration for Kinder – Prep is
open for children who turn five by December 31, 2012. Children whose fifth
birthday falls between September 2 and November 1, 2012 have top priority for
the Kinder – Prep program.
All elementary schools in the district will accept completed registration packets
through Friday, March 24, 2012.
The following steps will guide you through the process for registering your
student in the Petaluma City Schools’ kindergarten or kinder – prep program. Be
sure to complete all required registration forms (click to download: English
Registration Form, Spanish Registration Form) and bring all required documents
with you to the school (Admission Requirements and Proof of Residency; Please
refer to links below).
Your Neighborhood School
To begin the registration process you will need to identify your neighborhood
school. All students must register at the elementary school located within the
district determined boundaries for the student’s home address (click to see Attendance Area Boundaries).
Admission Requirements and Proof of Residency
A child who will have reached the age of five on or before November 1 of the
school year shall be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten at the beginning of that
school year or at any later time in the same year. A child who reaches the age of
five by December 31 is eligible for our Kinder – Prep program.
Go to the school in your attendance area with your student’s proof of birth and
proof of residence. Register your child early!
At the time of enrollment, an original certified copy of the birth certificate,
passport, or baptismal record must be used to verify the student's birth date.
Proof of residency – (click to see) within your neighborhood school boundaries is
a requirement for registration. Two original documents showing proof of
residency must be presented to school personnel.
The Petaluma City Schools District requires a child to have a physical
examination and oral health assessment prior to entering kindergarten.
Health and Immunization Requirement (click to see) At the time of enrollment,
proof of complete immunization records must be verified. It is required by
California State law that all students have complete records of immunizations
prior to entering school. Children will not be admitted to a classroom in the fall
unless the immunizations are up-to-date.
