Mission, Vision, Goals

To achieve the Board Mission and Vision the District will:
Increase achievement for all students and close the achievement gap in order to prepare students for college and career options.
Academic Support for Students
Goal 1: By May 2012, the percent of students in significant demographic groups scoring proficient or advanced on Reading Language Arts (RLA) and/or Math California Standards Test (CST) will increase by 5% or more.
Objectives:
- By May 2012, 100% of PCS students K-10 will be screened and assessed using district - wide assessments in Reading Language Arts. All students identified as at risk will be placed into a tiered intervention system.
- By May 2012, 100% of PCS students in Algebra 1 will be screened using the Algebra 1 benchmark. Those identified as at risk will be referred for interventions.
- By May 2012, identify the number of classes that do not meet A-G requirements. Identify and analyze the number of students not on track to meet A-G requirements by grade level.
- By May 2012, through tiered interventions, the number of students initially identified for Special Education services will decrease by 5%.
- By May 2012, at least 25% of students who are identified as ELL students and have received instruction in the district for five or more years will qualify to be reclassified as fluent English proficient.
Support for Instructional Team
Goal 2: By May 2012, the number of teachers participating in instructional leadership activities will be identified in order to establish baseline data (Baseline 2011/12)
Objectives:
- By May 2012, develop the use of focus groups to foster teacher peer support. Documentation will include focus group participant survey results and focus group records.
- By May 2012, 20 PCS teachers will be trained as facilitators in order to provide collegial support to their colleagues in the use of best practices.
- By May 2012, establish the criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of the Administrative Intern Program.
- By May 2012, diversify the representation of PCS teachers serving on various district committees.
- By May 2012, 60% of K-6 and 40% of 7-12 core teachers will be trained in implementation of effective student engagement strategies in Reading Language Arts.
- By May 2012, 10% of teachers and administrators will be trained as trainers in using technology, including interactive whiteboards, cloud-based curriculum, on-line learning, and mobile devices, as a part of the curriculum.
Supportive Learning Environment
Goal 3: By May 2012, the percentage of students who graduate, college and/or career ready, from Petaluma City Schools will increase by 5%.
Objectives:
- By May 2012, the K-12 guidance specialist and counseling intern program will be implemented and evaluated based on criteria established during the 2011/12 school year.
- A system to document number parents/guardians participating in school activities will be developed by May 2012.
- By May 2012, the percentage of students, by demographic group, truant, suspended, or expelled will decrease by 5% over the previous year.
- By May 2012, the number of courses that are aligned to A-G requirements or award occupation focused certificates, or provide internships within a career area will be identified in order to establish baseline data.
- By May 2012, 100% of students who are expelled, suspended for 5 days for a single event, declared an habitual truant, and/or are more than 30 credits (7-12) or one year behind academically will be included in a site-level student assistance program.
- By May 2012, increase the percentage of CTE students who have met the proficient or advanced level on the RLA/Math CAHSEE assessment. (Baseline 2010/11)
