Certificated Position and Application Information

Requirements for Certificated Positions:

  • Appropriate valid California teaching credential
  • Credential authorizing instruction to English Learner students: (SB 2042 credential with embedded EL authorization,  SDAIE, CLAD or BCLAD certification
  • BTSA participation is mandatory for all first and second year teachers
  •  All teachers of core subject areas must demonstrate that they are No Child Left Behind  compliant
Professional Development Opportunities:
  • Beginning teachers who are in their first or second year in the teaching profession will be supported through the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program (BTSA); through partnering with an experienced, support providing teacher, beginning teachers will further develop and refine their teaching practices as linked to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession
  • Teachers who are in year three and beyond in the teaching profession are supported through Peer Assistance and Review (PAR); by electing to participate in peer coaching, teachers are supported in professional growth in a wide range of teaching practices linked to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession
Important Notes Regarding Fingerprint Clearance for Employment and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001:
  • Teachers offered  positions in the District must receive fingerprint clearance from  the Department of Justice (DOJ) before the teacher may be placed in the classroom.  Actual hire date will be no earlier than the date that fingerprint clearance is received by the District from the DOJ.  There is a fee required by the DOJ, payable by the applicant, to process fingerprints.
  • All teachers of core subjects are expected to be "Highly Qualified Teachers" and compliant with No Child Left Behind.  For further information visit the California Department of Education's website at www.cde.ca.gov and look under the "Favorites" list for "No Child Left Behind".
Salary and Work Year:
  • Work year: 177 days
  • Salary schedule range: $37,855 - $72,627
  • Annual advanced degree stipends of $1,098 for MA or $2,194 for Doctorate (K - 12)
  • Annual stipend of $1,098 for National Board (Teaching) Certification (K - 12)
  • A maximum of ten (10) years experience is given for initial salary placement (K - 12)
  • Salary will be prorated for contracts less than 1. 0 FTE
  • Initial contract status will be "Temporary" 
Benefits:
  • The District will pay up to $839.61 per month toward a health plan for a full-time (1.0 FTE) employee.  Employees with contracts less than .5 FTE are not eligible to enroll in District health plans, but are eligible to enroll in dental or vision plans. 
  • Employees with contracts of 1.0  FTE or more are required to enroll in a health plan.
  • Enrollment in the dental or vision plans is optional.
  • The percentage paid by the District of the cap for a health plan, and of the total premium for dental and/or vision plans is prorated based on the employee's FTE.
  • The District will pay premiums for a $37,000 life insurance policy for contracts of . 75 FTE - 1. 0 FTE

    • Copies of your credential , certificates and verification of exams (CSET, MSAT, etc.) that you have passed
    • Copies of  transcripts showing degrees awarded (official transcripts will be required at time of employment)
    • A minimum of three letters of recommendation (evaluations are not letters of recommendation)

Invitations to Interview:
  • Applicant packets will be  evaluated and invitations for interview will be extended to those candidates who appear to be the most qualified for the position on the basis of the written material presented
  • If invited for an interview, the applicant may be asked to provide a professional portfolio to share with the Selection Advisory Committee; the portfolio will be returned to the applicant after a finalist is selected
Interview Process:
  • Applicant will be asked to spend 30 minutes addressing an essay question selected by the hiring committee
  • Applicants will be asked to prepare and teach a 15-minute lesson to a group of students; the lesson will be observed by the hiring committee
  • An oral interview
  • References will be confirmed for the hiring committee's chosen finalist
