Board Vacancy Information
Last weekend, the Petaluma City Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to begin the process of a provisional appointment to fill its open board member seat. This position was recently vacated due to the unexpected loss of Dr. Frank Lynch.
To avoid a costly special election, estimated to be $113,670, the Board has selected the provisional appointment process to fill the remaining fifth seat in an expedient manner.
Interested candidates should review the application process listed below. It is the Board's desire to draw from the largest possible number of candidates. All eligible candidates will be interviewed by the Board at a public meeting on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Applications are open today and will close on Wednesday, April 10th at 4:30 p.m.
The application process:
Any person is eligible to be a Board of Education member, without further qualifications, if he/she meets the following conditions:
- Is 18 years of age or older
- a citizen of California
- a resident of the school district
- a registered voter
- Not legally disqualified from holding civil office.
Any person who has been convicted of a felony involving the giving, accepting, or offering of a bribe, embezzlement or theft of public funds, extortion, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any such crime, under California law or the law of another state, the United States of America, or another country, is not eligible to be a candidate for office or be a Board member except when he/she has been granted a pardon in accordance with law.

Completed forms are due no later than Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. We anticipate that interviews will take place during the week of April 15th, 2019.
