The Yearly Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
This is an award for any student in grades 7th through 12th who has done a substantial amount of community service!
Each year by the first week in November, Valley Oaks students may fill out a short application and submit it to Mrs. Parker. (Mrs. Parker is the "certifier" for our principal, Ms. Lofton.)
Every school year, one student (Certificate of Achievement) and two runners-up (Certificates of Merit) are able to win the Local Honoree award for Valley Oaks School. If between 50 and 100 hours of service have been done then you may also qualify for the President's Volunteer Service Award.
The Valley Oaks Local Honoree will be submitted to a committee that will decide if you are going to be one of the California representatives ("State Honoree"). Students are notified in February and win $1,000.00, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. with a guardian/parent for a ceremony there each May.
At the ceremony in May, you may be chosen as one of 10 national winners (National Honoree). You will get an additional $5,000.00, another medallion, a trophy, and $5,000.00 for your favorite non-profit charity.
