Graduation Requirements: One year of a physical science + one year of a biological science.
College Requirements: Most colleges and universities prefer to see at least 3 years of science, and if you plan to major in a science you should take 4 years in high school in order to be competitive.
CTE Community Health Pathway
Our Science Department is pleased to offer Career Technical Education (CTE) in the area of Community Health. This pathway is designed for students who are interested in pursuing health professionals, from doctors & nurses to EMT, medical administration, mental health, nutrition and more. Classes in this pathway meet California CTE curriculum requirements (career exploration, professionals skills training, etc) and are staffed by CTE credentialed teachers (having industry experience).
Classes in this pathway are as follows:
- Biology & Community Health (BCH)
- Chemistry & Community Health (CCH)
- CTE Anatomy & Physiology
In addition to these classes we also have an active chapter of HOSA Future Health Professionals, a state & national Career Technical Student Organization with a mission to foster leadership and enriched opportunities to explore & prepare for a future in health care. All students in the Community Health Pathway are strongly encouraged to affiliate with HOSA.
SSEP Mission 7: Beginning in 2015 students from PHS Science Department participated in the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education program sending experiments to the ISS. Check out our PHS Mission 7 page for updates.
