Hour of Code at Kenilworth Jr. High

Students in Laura Bradley's English 8 class at Kenilworth Junior High participated in the "Hour of Code," a national movement to introduce students to computer programming, by coding computer games aligned to a recent writing assignment.  The students wrote novels for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and used those story lines as the inspiration to code their games using Scratch, a program developed at MIT for teaching students to code.  Mrs. Bradley teaches her students about how games have many of the same elements as novels, and also that the process of coding is similar to the writing process.  Students shared their games with each other to get feedback, and after revision, published the games online.
