Come Pick Up Free At-Home Rapid COVID Tests for PCS Staff and Students

Dear Petaluma City Schools Community,

As a school community, we have a shared responsibility to one another to minimize the risk of COVID-19 in the school environment. In an effort to ensure that we all return to school safely after Winter Break, we are distributing at-home rapid COVID tests for PCS students and staff and asking that you kindly administer a test for your students prior to returning to school on Monday, January 3rd as outlined below.

Students who DO NOT have any COVID-19 symptoms and have NOT had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19 should test two times: 

  • Test #1: On 12/31/2021, three (3) days before returning to school
  • Test #2: On 1/2/2022, the day before returning to school
  • If your child does test positive for COVID-19, please keep your child home and alert your school site right away.

If students DO have any COVID-19 symptoms and/or have had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, please get a PCR test and call your school for next steps before you return.

We will be distributing boxes of iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests at the Petaluma City Schools District Office for PCS students and staff members. Each box contains two test kits and we are asking that parents or guardians pick up test kits for their students.   2. McDowell Family Resource Center
    421 S McDowell Blvd, Petaluma, CA 94954
    Pick up is in the Southeast corner of the McDowell Elementary parking lot

This program is in no way intended to alter or undermine our existing COVID policies and protocols, particularly around testing during the school year. The Sonoma County Department of Health Services still stipulates that when a test is required (e.g. if symptomatic or if satisfying the testing requirement to shorten quarantine), it must be a verifiable test done either at a testing clinic or at a medical office.

The Omicron variant is threatening to significantly disrupt the beginning of the 2022 school year and cause harm to our community. Our goal is to provide a free tool that can prove effective at protecting your family and our school community as we return to in-person learning together.  

Our hope is that these free “Grab N’ Go” at-home test kits, combined with our established risk mitigation protocols (e.g. masking, hand hygiene, and staying home when symptomatic regardless of vaccination status), will minimize Omicron’s impact on our schools. With your help, we can keep our staff, students, and families safe and healthy as we start the new year.
