On December 14th, 2021 Petaluma City Schools swore in our first-ever student Board members! We are thrilled to welcome Malaya Cantor and Katie Hale to bring a student perspective to the decision-making process.

Malaya Cantor

Malaya Cantor is 16 years old and a Junior at Casa Grande High School. Malaya was born of an immigrant Filipino father and white mother. She is the President and founder of the Inclusivity, Objectivity, and Understanding (IOU) club, member of the Student Council Advisory, PTSA diversity representative, and Spanish translator at Casa Grande High school. She is also active in sports as a Varsity player for the girls' volleyball team and plays on an 18 Black club team for the Marin Juniors.

Malaya works with the Petaluma City Schools’ Branch of the International non-profit, Diversify Our Narrative, as well as the District’s Circle Up train the trainers program. In addition to all of this, Mayala works as a Youth Advisory Member with TeenSource, a non-profit that works across the state of California to offer resources to and educate teens in regards to sexual and reproductive health. Malaya’s goal in terms of college is to get into a UC school and study to become an OBGYN.

During her free time, Malaya loves to go dirt bike riding, fishing, surfing, snowboarding, and playing the ukulele whenever she gets a chance.

Katie Hale

Katie Hale is a junior at Petaluma High School where she takes an active interest in many clubs and extracurriculars on campus. She is the captain of the varsity girls’ soccer team and has played on the team since freshman year. Katie is also the president of the Future Women Leaders of Business and Industry Club.

On top of that, Katie is involved on campus through Link Crew, ASB, Student Advisory Council, and Site Council. Outside of school, she takes part in club soccer for North Coast Soccer Club and volunteers for National Charity League.

Katie plans to apply to a 4-year university next year and is currently undecided for her major.
