Passing of Resolution 1920-01
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE PETALUMA CITY (ELEMENTARY) AND JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICTS OPPOSING HATE CRIMES AND WHITE SUPREMACY
WHEREAS Petaluma City Schools is committed to affirming the rights and safety of all students, families, and employees. White supremacy is not welcome in our schools. We will work to educate students and our community about the harms of racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia to the best of our ability, and call on families to work at home to impart their values on their children; and,
WHEREAS Petaluma City Schools can legally refuse to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in locating students, honoring detainer requests, or providing certain information to ICE and CBP. To this end, the Board of Trustees affirms the existing protocol, which is to direct any federal agents that may show up on a campus to the District Office. Petaluma City Schools is committed to the privacy and safety of all our students and families, including our undocumented community members; and,
WHEREAS Petaluma City School’s Family Resource Center (located on the campus of McDowell Elementary School) has various resources for undocumented and immigrant Petalumans, including consultation on immigration issues.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Petaluma City (Elementary) and the Petaluma Joint Union High School Districts opposes hate crimes and white supremacy.
The foregoing resolution was introduced by Board Member Quinn, who moved its adoption, seconded by Member Cloud, and adopted on roll call by the following vote:
